Polysomnographic Technician & Technologist
A Polysomnographic Technician performs basic polysomnographic testing and associated interventions under the direct supervision of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist. The technician explains procedures and orients patients to the sleep center, completes/verifies documentation to facilitate scoring/interpretation, and performs duties necessary to ensure high quality diagnostic/therapeutic testing.
Education Requirements
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent and skill in communicating clearly and effectively using standard English in written, oral and verbal format to achieve high productivity and efficiency. Skill to write legibly and record information accurately as necessary to perform job duties.
Experience Requirements
6 months to one year of direct patient contact.
A Polysomnographic Technologist performs polysomnography procedures (sleep studies) and associated interventions on people with suspected sleep disorders under the direction of a medical doctor. The technologist collects, analyzes, and integrates patient information to identify and mee the patient specific needs and to determine testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the physician.
Education Requirements
Associate’s degree in Polysomnography
Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements
Registered Polysomnographic Technologist
