Physician/Doctor

Physicians diagnose and treat injuries or illnesses and address health maintenance. They examine patients, take medical histories, prescribe medications, and order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests. The Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) generally practices in primary care settings and take a holistic approach to medicine while treating the patient as a whole rather than just symptoms or injuries. The Medical Doctor (MD) practices allopathic medicine, focused on the diagnosis and treatment of human diseases typically in a speciality area.

Educational Requirements:

  • Premedical coursework, MCAT and a bachelor’s degree
  • 4 years of medical school and a residency program

Registration, Certification and/or Licensure Requirements:

  • Medical License Exam (MD)
  • Osteopathic Medical License Exam (DO)
  • State license (as applicable)
