Originally founded in 1944 as the Personnel and Industrial Relations Association (PIRA) by a small group of Los Angeles personnel administrators, PIHRA has grown to serve eighteen professional chapters, twelve student chapters and three specialty groups. PIHRA has a dedicated staff and is headquartered in Gardena, CA.
