Accidents, injuries, diseases and mental health issues can all require patients to go through rehabilitation therapy. As a therapist, you might help patients recover the mobility in their legs, stop stuttering or alleviate depression through crafts activities, depending on your specialization.  Careers in rehabilitation and wellness include:

Health Coach, Physical Therapist, Physical Therapy Assistant, Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Speech-Language Pathologist, Speech Pathology Assistant, Audiologist, & Wellness Coordinator


Delivers therapeutic occupational therapy intervention under the direct supervision of a licensed therapist according to a written plan of care to meet established goals. Provides treatment, participates in discharge planning, and communicates findings and progress according to professional licensure/certification, scope of practice and departmental/discipline policies and procedures. Produces other reports as needed. May supervise clinical students and support staff including certified/licensed assistants, technicians, and volunteers. Provides a caring relationship that facilitates health, and healing.

Licensure: Licensed as an Occupational Therapist Assistant in the state of practice.

Evaluates and assesses patients to establish functional, measurable goals to promote restoration of functional abilities. Provides treatment according to a written plan of care to meet established goals. Plans for discharge and communicates findings and progress according to professional licensure/certification, scope of practice and departmental/discipline policies and procedures. Produces other reports as needed. May supervise clinical students and support staff including certified/licensed assistants, technicians, and volunteers. Provides a caring relationship that facilitates health, and healing. Provides leadership support, participates on hospital committees, serves as a resource and ambassador for performance improvement to clinical and management staff. Performs other duties as assigned.

Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program.

Training

Advanced training and/or certification in area of primary practice.

Basic computer literacy skills.

Provides general leadership, management, and oversight of free-standing rehabilitation clinic operations. Assures appropriate staffing levels and provides supervision of clinical students and support staff including other therapists, assistants, and volunteers. Accountable for program development, fiscal management, revenue production, and customer service in clinic operations. Evaluates and assesses patients to establish functional, measurable goals to promote restoration of functional abilities. Provides treatment according to a written plan of care to meet established goals. Plans for discharge and communicates findings and progress according to professional licensure/certification, scope of practice and departmental/discipline policies and procedures. Provides patient care through evaluation, plan development, and delivery of therapeutic interventions to restore functional abilities. Communicates findings and progress according to professional licensure/certification, scope of practice, and departmental policy and procedures. May supervise clinical students and support staff including certified/licensed assistants, technicians, and volunteers. Provides a caring relationship that facilitates health, and healing. Provides leadership support, participates on hospital committees, serves as a resource and ambassador for performance improvement to clinical and management staff. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements, Preferences and Experience

Experience

Minimum:  2 years clinical experience or advanced training and certification in area of primary assignment. Preferred: 5 years clinical experience or advanced training and certification in area of primary assignment.

Education:

Master’s degree in occupational therapy.

Licensure, Registration, Certification

Minimum:  OT;BLS CERTIFICATION WITHIN 14 DAYS OF HIRE

Special Skills

Minimum:  Basic computer literacy skills.
