July 2025 Newsletter

When evaluating internal job candidates, employers often look for soft skills that demonstrate their ability to collaborate with colleagues and adapt to new challenges. Cultivating your soft skills is essential for building strong relationships and effectively solving problems, allowing you to make valuable contributions to any organization. Knowing how to showcase them on your resume, exhibit them during an interview, and cultivate them at work can enhance your chances of progressing in your career.

No matter what career goals you have, you should focus on developing soft skills including communication, leadership and time management. The Center for Career Development offers Skillsoft Percipio, our learning and professional development platform. Baptist Center for Career Development Welcomes Summer Interns

The Summer Scholars program gives 17 pre-med college sophomores and juniors a jump-start on their career through shadowing experiences and professional development opportunities.  The four-week program, occurring May through August, is designed to: expose students to a variety of medical disciplines via clinical shadowing experiences, explore topics and issues in health care, and empower them to make a decision regarding a career path in medicine.

Students complete an internship at one or more local Baptist hospitals and BMG clinics that includes shadowing, a weekly seminar focused on a health care topic, and a culminating Presentation of Learning (POL).

Baptist also partnered with the MPLOY Youth program, a City of Memphis initiative that gives local youth meaningful work experiences.

Featured is one of our standout interns, Daishia Bostick, who worked as a Student Assistant at Baptist Memphis on 5 East, Surgical Oncology unit. Everyone seems to love her and her ambitious attitude. She is definitely a go-getter and a stand-out amongst the young adults.” -Lisa Thompson, Advanced Clinician Nurse

Thank you to all our departments who hosted MPLOY students this summer!

That’s why it’s important to be resilient. Resilience has been shown to positively influence work satisfaction and engagement, as well as overall well-being, and can lower depression levels.
